Description
A simple, no-fuss option to accurately determine system volume using PTSA tablets. The PTSA TAB is designed to easily determine system size. The easy to handle product is a convenient tool for all water treaters to have in their test kit or service vehicle.
Application Procedure:
- Measure initial PTSA concentration in the circulating water of system to be measured. Record data. If the initial concentration is >150 ppb, increase blowdown or discontinue any traced product feed to the system until PTSA drops below 100 ppb. Re-sample, test for PTSA, and record result. Shut off blowdown at this point until sizing procedure is complete.
- Determine appropriate number of PTSA System Sizing Tablets required to increase PTSA concentration 60-140 ppb. Each tablet will increase PTSA by 100 ppb per 1,000 gallons. For every 1,000 gallons of estimated system volume, add 1 PTSA System Sizing Tablet. Alternatively, use SolidGuide’s System Sizing Calculator to determine number of TABS to add.
- Allow tablets to dissolve and circulate for a minimum of 15 minutes before sampling and determining final PTSA concentration. Calculating system volume turnover can also be helpful. (Approximate System Volume) / (Recirculation Rate) * 5 = Wait Time (minutes)
- Take samples every 3 minutes and plot results or use results from on-line remote monitoring. PTSA should peak and then drop to a consistent reading. This levelized reading will be the final PTSA data point.
- Plug initial and final PTSA concentrations, as well as the number of tablets used, into the calculator on AP Tech’s app, SolidGuide, or into the following formula to determine system volume: (# of Tablets x 100,000) / (Final PTSA ppb – Initial PTSA ppb) = System Volume Gallons
